New John Woo DVDs in Hong Kong and
Japan
Mega Star has announced new John Woo DVDs, Hong Kong versions, but no release
dates has been set so far. Both 'Heroes Shed No Tears' and 'Last hurrah for
Chivalry' should be released on DVD some day, hopefully soon.
In Japan Beam has announced two other DVD releases for June 25 release. These
discs are naturally coded for region 2 only. Bullet in the Head was released in
Hong Kong a long time ago but Hand of Death seems to be first available time on
DVD. What I have heard these DVDs should have English subtitles! And Chinese
(traditional & simplified). And Japanese of course. Price for both is 4800
Yen each. Hand of Death has original Cantonese mono soundtrack. You can bet I
would love to have that disc, I have seen only p&s and English dubbed
version so far. This DVD offers letterboxed Cantonese version. Bullet in the
Head is reported to include both Mandarin and Cantonese dialogue in Dolby
Digital 2.0 mix. DD5.1 mix sounded a bit strange in Hong Kong version, stereo
sound might be better, for sure I would be interested to hear that. Bullet was
originally filmed with mono sounds.
- Bullet in the Head - Cat. no: BBBF-1320, sound: Cantonese
DD2.0
- Hand of Death - Cat. no: BBBF-1267, sound: Cant & Mand.
DD1.0
Sazuma.Com says Bullet in the Head Japan DVD would be released by Gaga
Communications and include suntitles mentioned and Korean, Malaysian and
Spanish.
The Killer DVD Fox Lorber version release date
The Killer - DVD - Available 10/3/00
Starring: Chow Yun-Fat, Danny Lee, Sally Yeh, Chu Kong
Director: John Woo
Explosive, bold and mind-blowing, The Killer is a pulse-stopping action
sensation from the hot director of Mission Impossible 2, the 2000 summer
blockbuster film starring Tom Cruise.
Category: Action & Adventure Runtime: 104 Minutes
Year: 1991 Rating: NR (not rated) Format: DVD
Price: $29.98 Catalog#: FLV5223
This info is from Fox
Lorber web site, but surely film should run longer than 104 minutes? Maybe
it is just error. Are they really going to release cut R-rated version?!!
There is no specific information about extra material what this releases was
supposed to include, there were some rumours about new audio commentary by
John Woo and other stuff.
Other rumour has been if Fox Lorber is going to released Hard Boiled DVD,
now words are saying it would be anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1
soundtrack. But it all is useless tidbits if our biggest fears will become
real and both The Killer and Hard Boiled DVDs from Fox Lorber will be CUT
R-rated versions. Let's hope not.
Mission: Impossible 2 World Wide box office
Tuesday, 6/20/00- Don Groves at Variety reported
SYDNEY (Variety) - Socko debuts by ``Mission: Impossible 2'' in five
territories plus impressive bows by ``Dinosaur'' in four countries and
``Gladiator's'' solid but not spectacular launch in Japan energized the
foreign box office last weekend.
In much of Europe, however, studios have decided not to compete with the
Euro 2000 soccer play-offs, and receipts plunged across-the-board.
Day-and-date with its insipid domestic premiere, ``Titan A.E.'' invaded
Singapore, fetching a meager $104,000. Nonetheless, Fox believes it's devised
a strong campaign, which will give the animated picture a better chance of
finding audiences abroad. Its first major market date is July 7 in Brazil.
``Mission: 2'' raked in $7.9 million from 10 countries, bringing its
foreign haul to $19.8 million in only the third weekend of international
release. John Woo's actioner minted $2.1 million in two days in South Korea
(an all-time high, beating ``The Mummy''), $1.7 million in two days in Taiwan
(the second-biggest opener ever behind ``The Lost World: Jurassic Park'') and
$1.3 million in four days in Argentina.
The Tom Cruise headliner smashed the industry local currency record in
Turkey with $595,000 in three days, and in Chile harvested a fine $370,000 in
four days. Through its third lap in Australia, the sequel has amassed $9.2
million.
