Cristian Slater casted in Windtalkers
(11.06.)
Slater Talked Into Woo Rematch
Christian Slater, whose last film offering was 1998's poorly received Very Bad
Things, will reteam with Mission: Impossible 2 helmer John Woo for
Windtalkers, Variety reports.
Woo previously worked with Slater in the director's second American film,
1996's Broken Arrow, which starred John Travolta. Woo sure likes to use the
same leading men: Windtalkers will star Nicolas Cage, who faced off with
Travolta in the Hong Kong auteur's third U.S. film, Face/Off.
In Windtalkers, Slater and Cage will play World War II soldiers assigned to
guard the Navajo Indians who've been tapped with code duty - since no foreign
power could crack the Navajo language, that was the code of choice during the
war.
If capture seems imminent, however, the military men have orders to kill the
men they're assigned to protect. Think that threat will be acted on? If not,
go back to Screenwriting 101, junior.
Shooting begins in August in Hawaii. The script is thanks to Blown Away
writers John Rice and Joe Batteer.
Slater is currently filming the comedy Cletis Tout with Tim Allen and will be
seen this December with Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell in their Elvis-themed
heist pic, 3000 Miles to Graceland - let's hope it's not as bad as the
Santa-suited robbery scene in Reindeer Games. Slater also co-stars in the
political drama The Contender with Joan Allen and Jeff Bridges, which will be
in theaters this September.

Mission: Impossible 2 end fight changed (11.06.)
Craig Reid at Fandom.com,
in the second of a three-part interview, interviewed
John Woo regarding MISSION:
IMPOSSIBLE 2. Regarding the original finale, he replied that
"'...there was going to be a big car chase... in downtown Sydney.
...somehow after we had brought all the cars, built a lot of things, getting
the explosions together, set up for the car to crash into stores and
everything... we couldn't get the permit. ...so we had to change the whole
idea and do the whole motorcycle chase outside of Sydney and then go to the
cliffs to do the fight.' And regarding Alfred Hitchcock, he replied "'Oh,
he was a great filmmaker, and in each one of his films he would have or
experiment with new kinds of things, not just technically but also visually.
[...] He [also] usually lets the audience know who the killer is at first and
that makes the audience feel more scary. The other thing is that he has a good
sense of humor and he does that in an elegant way, and he is very romantic in
like TO KILL A THIEF or NORTH BY NORTHWEST; even in TOPAZ, the American spy in
Cuba with the girl is so romantic.'"

So what about this site?
M:I-2 is so big hit someone really had to do this. And entertaindom.com does
film parodies.
John Woo in Premiere, June issue (11.06.)
The June issue of PREMIERE magazine has a kick-ass article on John Woo and
it comes with a cool photo of him too. If you are unable to pick up a copy, check
out their website for the article.
Incidentally, you can also watch Tom Cruise, John Woo and Thandie Newton
talk about making the new action blockbuster "Mission Impossible 2"
as MediaTrip.com has exclusive
red carpet footage.

In the last picture, John Woo is the one inside the red circle. That picture is

Tom Cruise wants Chow Yun-fat in M:I-3 (11.06.)
Appledaily reported Tom Cruise originally wanted to match with CYF in MI2 but
CYF was filming Anna and the King at that time. Now he wants CYF in MI3 and CYF
asks to see a script before committing.
Of course he could not get the main role in M:I-3, that is for Tom Cruise.
But for sure Chow Yun-fat would be seen by big audience if he had a good role in
next sequel. Another question is who is going to direct possible sequel. Would
M:I-3 bring Woo and Chow together? Originally Tom Cruise has stated that he
wants different director for every mission.
Tsui Hark is planning Better Tomorrow remake with
female cast
Tsui Hark has been
planning to make female version of John Woo classic A Better Tomorrow (1986).
Tsui Hark originally wanted to make ABT a story of three females but Woo wanted
to make it with male lead. Actually Tsui Hark made Peking Opera
Blues when his ideas with ABT were rejected. Tsui Hark has later
admitted that he was too much involved in ABT project, Woo did not get enough
room to breath. Woo is very much an independed as director. And there we can see
some basic reasons why John Woo and Tsui Hark did go seperate ways in late '80s,
after The Killer (1989).
Tsui Hark has been planning some other remakes of his older films: Zu -
Warrior from Magic Mountain 2 and Black Mask 2. I also heard he's
already begun work on TIME AND TIDE with Nicholas Tse Tin-Fung and Cecilia
Cheung.
