2 disc Special edition is beautiful release. Good quality picture and
sound but sadly no English subtitles. Nice set of bonus material.
Especially 75 minute document on Hard Boiled is terrific. If you watch
movie with Cantonese Soundtrack French subtitles can't be turned of. Two
hours bonus material. |

German DVD of Hard Boiled is one of the most notorious examples of
censorship. There are over 20 minutes missing. It makes the film hard to
follow. Also German dub only. Really
bad release.

Vista will release Hard Boiler in US
DVD wil be released some day. Currently any details is not
available so we can't know for sure if Buena Vista will release cut and
dubbed version. |

Hard Boiled has been released many times on DVD but it is still a
bit difficult to find a good DVD version. In US distribution rights has been
sold from company to another and now both Criterion and Fox Lorber/Winstar
releases are out of print. New owner hasn't released their new version.
Hong Kong version released by Mei Ah is not that great but
fortunately includes original Cantonese mono soundtrack. If you want to listen
5.1 sounds Mei Ah DVD has DD 5.1 remix which is not that bad really. Picture
quality is not too great but watchable. Movie is
For those looking for anamorhic releases need to go to Europe.
Tartan released one in UK but picture quality is actually quite bad and I prefer
Criterion or Winstar versions.
Winner comes from France. Two disc version released by HK
Video is terrific but not ideal for international audience. PAL R2 DVD is
targeted for French speaking audience and does not include English subtitles.
But for die hard fan 75 minutes document alone is worht the price. And if you've
seen Hard Boiled too many times you propably could watch it without subtitles
now.
